With a choice of locations, our Best for Beginners Acting course is completed over 7 weeks. Classes are held once a week for 3 hours with a performance to friends and family held at the end of the course in a separate session. Darlo Drama's Level One Beginners Acting Course, also known as "The Monologue," is designed to provide an introduction to acting for those who have little or no experience in acting.
Darlo Drama is the right place, for anyone looking to build their confidence and creativity in a supportive environment and is perfect if you have always wanted to try acting or if you wish to discover it again after a long break.
Since 1992 we have developed a team of leading industry tutors that have a wealth of knowledge to share with you. We will help you to build confidence, feel at ease in front of an audience, whether in a professional or social setting, and introduce you to lots of tools that you can use on stage, at work and in your daily life.
Classes start gently, allowing a safe place for students to PLAY and EXPLORE with fun games, trust exercises and improvisation. As time goes on, your group will begin to get more COMFORTABLE, RELAXED and SPONTANEOUS. You will find confidence in self expression, learning techniques to assist with presenting in front of a group, working through “stage fright” and connecting to an audience while developing your communication skills.
The course covers a range of topics, including creativity, presenting, voice and movement, ensemble work, improvisation, imagination and performance, developing performance confidence, and script work.
One of the unique features of Darlo Drama's Level One Beginners Acting Course is that it is taught by expert tutors who are experienced leaders in the field of acting and adult education. The tutors at Darlo Drama are passionate about their craft and are dedicated to helping students achieve their full potential and through your work with them you will discover a monologue script, develop a character, learn voice projection and take direction.
Through the building of deeper, more authentic approaches to connecting to others and embracing a spirit of bravery and generosity we will help you to find a greater sense of personal leadership and confidence through acting.
By the end of the course, you will be ready to perform…it sounds daunting we know – but trust us, we are with you every step of the way! This performance is a significant milestone for students, as it provides an opportunity to apply the skills and techniques they have learned throughout the course. The performance is also an opportunity to celebrate their achievements with family, friends, and fellow students in a supportive environment.
Creativity, Presenting, Voice & Movement, Ensemble Work, Improvisation, Imagination & Performance, Developing Performance Confidence & Script Work.
At the conclusion of the course you and your classmates will perform monologues with lights and music to an audience of family, friends & fellow students.
Level One, Two and Three requires attendance at one class per week for three hours at the same time each week.
Level One: The Monologue (8 sessions including 1 performance)
Level Two: The Scene (9 sessions including 1 performance)
Level Three: The Story (11 sessions including 2 performances)
Once you have completed Level One the subsequent Level's can be completed at any time. There is no obligation to complete all Levels straight away but we do recommend not leaving too long in between to keep your momentum of learning going.
We welcome beginners of all backgrounds, ages and stages, There is no experience necessary to participate in Level One: The Monologue at Darlo Drama.
All students must be over 18 years of age at the start of the course.
