Beginner's Acting, Level One

Level One: Screen Acting

Welcome to Darlo Drama's Screen Acting Series. This course is an exciting introduction to being in front of the camera that will unlock new skills that will help you develop in new areas

Course overview

Screen acting requires dedication, hard work, and most importantly, a solid foundation of training. That's where our beginner's screen acting course comes in.

If you have completed Level One, Two and Three at Darlo Drama (or equivalent elsewhere)  then our Beginners screen acting class is an exciting introduction to screen acting that will unlock new and exciting skills.

This screen acting course is designed to give you the foundational tools you need to develop your screen craft. Over the course of six weeks, you will delve deep into the craft of screen acting and develop your skills through a series of immersive exercises and techniques.

In week one, you will focus on one of the most important skills an actor can have - listening. Through a series of grounding exercises and improvisation techniques, you will learn to be present in the moment and truly listen to the other person in the scene. This skill is essential for building believable and authentic performances and is a must-have for any aspiring actor.

Moving on to week two, you will explore the art of script analysis. By learning to analyse the given circumstances of a scene, you will develop a deeper understanding of your character's motivations and emotions. Through sensory imagery, self-trust, and curiosity, you will learn to clarify the stakes within a scene, making it easier to connect with your character and deliver a powerful performance.

Week three focuses on the connection between your body and your performance. Performance nerves can be a common problem for many actors, but by learning to listen to your body, you can gain a greater sense of control over your emotions. Through anchor points within a scene and freedom to play, you will learn to connect with your body and deliver authentic, nuanced performances.

In week four, you will explore the relationship between your character and the story. By understanding how your character choices can deepen the storyline and enrich the stakes of the scene and storyline, you will learn to serve the story and deliver powerful, memorable performances.

And in week five and six we will be bringing it altogether! Students will workshop a scene in a self-tape format. It’s an opportunity to bring everything they have learnt during the first four classes into their screen performance and receive individual feedback from Grace.

Throughout the course, you will be guided and nurtured by Grace Naoum who has years of experience in the industry as an actor, director and screen acting teacher.

Grace will provide you with constructive feedback tailored to you and help you develop the skills you need to succeed. In addition, you will have the opportunity to connect with other aspiring actors and build your network, an essential component of any successful acting career.

At the end of the six-week course, you will have a greater understanding of the craft of screen acting and the skills you need to succeed. You will have developed a deeper connection with your body, your emotions, and the other actors in the scene, making it easier to deliver powerful and authentic performances. Whether you are just starting out or looking to take your career to the next level, our beginner's screen acting course is the perfect place to begin.

So why wait? Sign up today and start your journey towards success in the film and television industry!
